In the 1930s this group of trainees are wearing a summer tunic of the model 1932, and experimental field caps.
Finnish WWI Army Uniform(s) After Independence, Finland set about equipping it's small army. Initial uniforms and equipment were made up of surplus items from the Russian and German Armies. In 1922 Finland set about developing it's military uniform, and initially the Russian pattern held a strong influence. In the 1930s some new uniforms were developed, and various types were experimented with.

These soldiers appear to be from a training school, possibly for junior officers or N.C.O's. They are wearing the model of 1932 (m/32) summer blouse. This jacket came in two patterns of this same year model, one known as the m/32 old, (which tended to be a green/brown colour) and the other the m/32 or m/32 new,(more of a grey). The main difference was the shoulder straps in the second model were of the same material as the jacket. This jacket is the later model. In 1936 the final summer tunic pattern was adopted, the m/36 summer. The belt buckle of the Finnish Army, as worn by the soldier on the left, is the 1922 model steel buckle, painted grey, which shows a lion in a wreath, by the Second World War a simple brass roller buckle was worn.

The main difference between this tunic and the later m/36 is the button up cuff. The m/36 had a vent opening at the sleeve end while this m/32 has a separate two-button cuff, this had an appearance some what similar to the old Russian patterns. This m/32 tunic is being worn by the soldiers with the experimental field cap m/34, later to be adopted as the field cap m/36.
