The first tunic is a pre-1900 Seaforth Highlanders white wool short mounted pattern jacket. This is an officers jacket of the rank of Captain.
Directly below this is a military kilt of the 27th Battalion South Australia. The red Scottish tunic next to them is the New South Wales tunic, which is a pre-Federation (ie pre-1900) This tunic has a yellow collar with white piping and is lined in a gray cotton, the buttons on the tunic show both the Queen Victoria's crown as well as some King's crown buttons. On top of the tunic is a white pith helmet, that appears to be of a local manufacture, there are no identifying marks, the air holes appear to be made of a bone material.
The black jacket with the red lapels is an officers mess dress, dated 1938, and is made by a British tailor.
Directly below this mess jacket and next to the Scottish tunic is a green 'Rifles' tunic, this tunic is for a Lieutenant. It had black frogging across the front and would normally be done up by the use of the hooks and eyes as well as some toggle (now missing after a vandal attack). The cuffs and the collar are finished in a very deep green-blue velvet. There is a rank pip on each front of the collars. The tunic is heavily padded and tailored, there is no sign of a label or any other marks. It was suspected that this may have belonged to an Officer who served in either the South Australian or Tasmanian Armies prior to Federation.
Above is a 1935 dated Royal Australian Navy Captains tails suit, complete with coat, vest and gold striped trousers.
In kakhi below this suit is a Canadian made battle dress blouse worn by Maj. General SYMES, the tunic is dated 1943, and is worn with his full compliment of ribbons, including his OBE. On the upper sleeves are the regimental flash of the South Australian Regiment, from when he was the honorary Lt. Col. of the Regiment.
Behind is a WW2 Reserved Surgeon Captain's reefer coat .
Above the naval coat is a most unique tails suit. It was designed for, and worn by the Aide to the Governor of South Australia, in the 1920s. The lining to the lapels and the inside of the tails is a sky blue silk, the buttons are silver and bear the Kings cypher. 1923-1927
A white tunic is next, which belonged to the same person who owned the naval tails suit. This is a simple white cotton mess jacket. The rank of Captain is worn on the shoulders.
Underneath is a 1960s Victorian Scottish green tunic, it was never issued and has yellow facings.
The red mess uniform also belonged to SYMES as an officer in his original regiment.
