This is the uniform of a Soviet sergeant. The uniform consists of a great coat, 'fish-fur' hat and the combat equipment for light combat order.
The coat is made of a heavy dark grey material, it is well made and soundly constructed, it is double breasted and has 12 'stay-bright' buttons on the chest. There is a false belt at the rear. Numerous marks are on the inside left front panel of the coat, showing markers details and sizing. There are two waist pockets with covering flaps. The shoulder boards are sewn directly onto the coat, as are the collar badges, these collar badges denote the wearer as a member of a motorized rifles unit.
Equipment consists of a rifle, the AK47, in 7.62 x 39 mm.. The waist belt holds a canvas pouch which is carrying four 30 shot magazines for the rifle, as well as some essential cleaning kit with some spare parts. The belt is made of web material with a brown rubberised surface to the outside, it has a green painted metal buckle. The equipment Y- straps are of a similar construction, and have the added feature of wool lined shoulder pads, to spread the weight of the load. Hanging from his left shoulder and at his right waist is a map case, this is made of leather and a composite material. The map case also has numerous marks.
The hat is a standard Soviet Army fur cap. It is made of a padded construction with an outside covering of a fake fur. The hat's sides and rear can fold down and be tied under the wearers chin, as protection against the cold. At the rear of the hat, between the fold of the rear neck protector and the body of the hat, is a soldiers sewing 'kit'. This consists of two needles and two lengths of cotton yarn. The badge on the front is a red star, with a hammer and sickle, surrounded by a wreath. It is made of a 'stay-bright' material.
